New York!

Hello from !  This is my second time visiting this vast orgy of people.  Yesterday I stayed up for almost 24 hours to catch my 6:30am flight from PDX to JFK.  Due to the timezones, westerlies, and a four hour nap I arrived around 2:30. I've been to massive airport complexes like JFK before, but they are still very daunting.  It took me an hour to get from the terminal to the A line.  At PDX there is a recording of a guy which every few minutes announces "Due to increased security measures <insert message here>."  JFK's recordings sound like the same exact guy, but with a strong New York accent.  It gave me a chuckle.

In the movies we only see the old crappy silver subway cars with announcements made by the train driver.  Those were on the A line.  Later Best Friend took me on the newer cars.  The recordings on the cars are much more polite, they even say "please." So polite that they make the recordings sound like a mobile passive aggressive insult machine.

Anyways, the culture is a lot like what I remember when I was here with my family when I was 18.  Car horns are a formal language on the road, people everywhere (and there is a DEFINITE case of here: everyone is sooo pretty! We got suckered into comedy club tickets.  This club is doing shows for Comedy Central so they have to fill up the club.  Standard 2 drink minimum with drinks between $5-9.  The ticket seller recommended a drink called a Long Island.  My laughed as said she preferred a AMF (like Long Island but -coke +blue cericou as we explained to the ticket seller).  Apparently this drink is foreign to them.

Some other highlights.  We went to a famous toy store that has the giant piano from big.  We went into a lobby of a VERY nice hotel, around a corner with a curtain covering it to a TINY hole in the wall hamburger bar where I had the best hamburger I ever had (see: recent episode of How I Met Your Mother) and also probably violated half the health codes.  Took subway back to Best Friend's apartment.  Stopped at McDolands.  Here in NYC there is a law that restaurants that have more than a certain number of places must post the Calories of all the menu items.  My precious snack wrap has 330 Kcals!  We got a sweet tea (we don't have back home) that is delicious!  Amazing! ZOMG IT IS FROM MCDONALDS!!!!!!  Watched the debate, then more or less passed out until 11:30am.  And now I think I am going to go out and go on an adventure.

I'd post pictures, but my site is taking up too many inodes. I must ponder alternatives.

Great to see you’re having fun! :) Say hi to your best friend for me. I hope the comedy club works out, i’ve always wanted to do something like that, sounds like it will be fun, especially if comedy central is going to be there! Score! You know stewart and Colbert are nearby. :p
