Orycon 30: TV and Movies

I am participating in Orycon 30 again this year and return with my annual report of TV and Movie rumors and speculations from the same man as last year. According to one of his fans who followed up on his past predictions, this guy has 92% accuracy to his predictions and statements.  But first, the strike.

Not the writer's strike, the Screen Actors Guild strike.  SAG's negotiation with the studios reached the point where it required federal mediation.  The few weeks of the writer's strike cost the LA area over 2 billion dollars is lost economy.  Why is SAG now moving to strike?  The studios want to expand out and produce content for new mediums (such as the internet).  The studios want to be able to use non guild actors and not pay these actors any royalties.  Such union busting is obviously pissing off the guild and its members and will not budge on this item. I don't blame them. Actors, writers, directors, and everyone else to get some payment every time their performance is shown. Today at 1am the talks broke down and the Guild is moving to vote for the strike.  Unlike the writers strike where there was some scripts already in reserve, there are no actors in reserved.  They will all walk.

As of things stand now, before the strike new anyway, here are the current state of affairs.

• Atlantis dvd movies are currently in talks
• Rumor JJ Abrams got $160 million for the new Star Trek movie (OMG TRAILER!!) and used every penny.
• Men in Black 3 in concept stage
• Writer claims to be working on Blade Runner 2 script.
• Disney announced all animated films will be offered in 3D
• Toy story 3 coming as a full theatrical movie due to Steve Jobs killing Eisner's direct to dvd system
• Ice age 3 is also being worke don
• Classic horors being remade and in 3d such as:
  • Friday the 13th remake
  • Nightmare on elm street
• Rob Zombies Halloween squeal in talk
• Underworld prequel is in talks and early planning
• Pink panther 2 is coming out this year
• Street fighter 2 is in talks and early planning (or is in production, I can't remember)
• Watchman is near the end of liegal limbo and should be coming out by the end of the year
• The Rock in the race to witch mountain
• The wolfman is close to a go
• Wolverine is in production
• Terminator 4/Salvation.  Christian bale as john connor. 3 picture series (4,5,6) is being planned for. Because of the third movie the war is different that what his mother prepared him for.William nolan writing. 2 days ago. Arnold is in it as a cgi arnold, however the effect does not look realisting and they are looking at other alternatives such as doing some reshooting with arnold in the movie.
• Angles and Demons is already condemned by the Catholic Church
• Transformer: Revenge of the Fallen is in late production and post production stages.
• Universal studios is fulfilling a license with Halsboro games: Live action films based on halsboro games, monopoly and candy land.
• Will Farrel in Land of the Lost
• Keven Smith new film.  Not doing starwars stuff.  Movie called Red State, a horror film.
• GForce - a group a hamsters are secret agents for the government
• GIJoe - Darth Maul in it
• Bioshock movie is being considered and talked about.
• 21 Jump Street
• Night at the museum 2 is in production
• Final Destination 4, may also have 3d
• 1 year away of seeing Jame Cameron Avatar with S. Weaver. About a War between planets is all that he really knows about it at this point.
• Christmas Carol remake is being done.
• Yes Man gets very good early word.
• Remaking Robocop is happening
• Wonderwoman still in limbo

2010

• Loan Ranger film.  Johny Depp as Tonto. George Cloony as loan ranger
• Family Guy movie.  All goes as planed.  They are doing abortion show, Peter is test subject if homosexuality is heredity. 
• Steve Correll. Office spinoff planned. Get Smarter is a go. Steve is going to produce some movies now.
• Thor.  In dev stage.  Brad Pitt name attached with others.
• hell raiser remake.
• Transporter 3 is meh,
• Crank 2
• The day the earth stood still will be interesting at the very least.
• jms has walked away from from Babylon 5. Lost tales did far far beyond any expectations (as Babylon 5 has always done).  WB only offered 2 million budget for the second installment,t he same as the first. Due to the clout jms is gaining as writer of the Changeling and because he is being given fantastic offers for other projects, he told WB no. They upped it to 5 million, he said no.  nothing >short of a feature film is acceptable now.
• jms is now being tapped to remake for forbidden planet.

• Fantastic Voyage is also being talked about
• Borat guy has another character, he is doing a Burno film (fem austrian).  Got ben aflic was zinged. Crashed the Medium set

• 28 months later still trying to move forward

• In todays market cheers and seinfield would not survive in their first year.

• Caprica has fallen into black hole.  Rumor is the peoples are not happy with it.  Pilot is done and no official release date has been set, not a good sign. Some Razor like movies with the BSG cast has been set.

• Ron Howard has signed deal for arrested development movie.
• Joss hasn't given up on serenity, but studio has
• Harry Potter Deathly might be split still
• BEav  Hills Cop 4 trying to move forward
• Smerfs movie still happening

• Lot of people unhappy with ghost busters 2.  Murry has ownership in the series and he needs say to move forward.  Game in limbo.  Murry is now interested in the script for 3rd live action ghost busters.  Possibly passing of the torch film.  Swth Rogan name attached.
• The Thing.  John Copender.  Current version on secure imdb.  Prequil/Sequal to the origional that shows events happening not only before, and after, and at the same time.  Something is moving forward.

2011

• Things on the calender.  Scripts not finalized.  Names not signed.

• 4th Bourn Ultimatum movie.  New script, not based on new books at al.  Matt is back.

The Reaction

The reaction hurt.  Out of all the people I verbally talked to, only two were genuinely excited for my news. The rest were surprised and uncertain how to react.  It was almost as if it was a disappointment.  I wasn't surprised.  It is a social construct that is not part of conditioned reaction.  It does not fit into learned social pattern.  As a result people react as they do with anything strange.

Only Once

There are certain things in life we only get to do once.  One shot.  We prepare for it by planning in intricate detail the perfect scenario: the right words to say, the backdrop, and the outcome.  I had dreams how the moment would go.  On top of a hill with the city lights behind us, or at the park where we first fell in love.  I would drop down to my knee, bring out the ring, and look into his eyes and pray that I am good enough.

I've known Derek for almost four years now. We've been together for the longer half of two years.  We've lived together for almost one.  For the longest time I wanted to ask, but I held back waiting for the right moment. Life never goes according to plan.

After our double date last night we were sitting in the car talking.  IT came up. My heart gave one solid thud and the words escaped my mouth. There was no ring, there was no cascading waterfall with a brilliant sun shining through the canopy and no ring.  It was just the two of us on a rainy night in a car parked on a street in downtown Portland with foggy windows.

It didn't feel right.  It didn't feel enough. So I dragged him out onto the sidewalk and went down to one knee and asked him again.  For the first time in a very long time I didn't care who was around watching.  I told him I didn't care what we call it, or each other.  I just want to spend the rest of my life with him.

He said yes.

End of a Mission

Phoenix transmitted what appears to be its last transmittion on November 2. A lot of good work has been done by the Martian polar lander, such as discovering water (again) on Mars, but I can't help but feel a little sad every time we lose a probe.

However the next massive mission to Mars will be amazing.  Martian sample return....

Cascading Upgrades

Boyfriend felt that he needs to upgrade his one year old computer, so he bought a Nvidia 9800 GT (because World of Warcraft is SUCH a demanding game).  In turn I installed his old 8600 GT.  My brother will, as a result, get my 7600 GT.  My Dad would, in theory, get my brother's 6600 GT.  However the fan on the 6600 GT is faulty, sometimes it needs a push to start spinning at boot. So we will just get Dad a new card when my brother upgrades his motherboard, giving Dad his old one.

RIP Windows 3.1

Up until this November 1st one could still buy a license for Windows 3.1, an operating system that was released in 1990.  It was also the Operating system (with DOS 6.x) of my first computer in 1995. This was mostly for embedded devices like cash registers. It required a 8086/8088 processor with a clock speed of at least 10 MHz, 640 KB of RAM, and 7 MB of storage space. Looks like these small embedded devices will be moving to linux!

Article I Section 4

Section 4 - Elections, Meetings

The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Place of Chusing Senators.

The Congress shall assemble at least once in every Year, and such Meeting shall (be on the first Monday in December,) (The preceding words in parentheses were superseded by the 20th Amendment, section 2.) unless they shall by Law appoint a different Day.

Linux Endorses Obama

Linus Torvalds, creator and head developer of the Linux kernel, has just written a thoughtful post supporting Barack Obama.  I have always been a fan of his philosophical outlook (including calling the OpenBSD team a bunch of masturbating monkies) and this post affirms that.  He avoids calling out McCain directly, but it is clear that black and white thinking and being exclusive to one issue results in exclusionary and negative practices.  John Stewart once joked that Republicans love America, but they just hate half of it.  While it is ironic that the joke uses the same black and white thinking I am commenting on I do think it applies and shows a striking difference between the candidates.

I'd also love to see how the candidates would respond to some questions measuring Kohlberg's moral development.
