, one of the variants of , has released its latest version code named Karmic Koala. For those of you running an older version you can update using the update manager. For everyone else you can download and burn a CD image from Ubuntu's website. If resizing hard drive partitions frighten you there is the Wubi install which installs Ubuntu as a windows application.

Did I mention it is free and runs great on older hardware?

I’ve never really been successful on running Linux. I used to consider myself a pretty savvy computer geek but my failure at Linux has crushed that self imposed description. I think most of my problems stem from the fact that I have very little patience when it comes to setting up technology and I just want it to work straightaway.

A lot of progress has been made getting things to just work in the past couple years. A lot more things work out of the box now. With Wubi giving it a shot is more easy than ever :P

d infamous technology pusher
