Simple mechanical adding machine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcDshWmhF4A

If one were to take a modern CPU and make it mechanical like the video above, the marble cpu would be approximately 200 kilometers in length and width. That is about 125 miles or 15,625 square miles. According to this post, such a cpu would be larger than Belgium, or 59 other countries. It would be the 133rd largest country in the world.

<ThomasEgi> if each marble has 15g weight
<ThomasEgi> and for a full FFFFFFF in all register ..
<ThomasEgi> you'd need up to 2 billion marbles
<ThomasEgi> that makes more than 30thousand tons of marbles

I updated my desktop this morning with a new wallpaper and a new theme. I switched the wallpapers as it looked better with Venus on the right side. Desktop is Karmic with the 4 desktop. Wallpaper is from experience the planets. I am using the widget style oxygen with the TeaSun color scheme. Widgets are using the oxygen theme as well.

On the left monitor is the file container of my source code folder (KDE doesn't put icons directly on the desktop, they are put in containers, and containers can point to any folder). Below that is a terminal widget as, for me, it is faster to type commands than to hunt around a gui. On the wight monitor is a unit converter widget, weather widget, and a widget so Derek can remind me all the things I need to do.On the bottom of the right monitor is . A program similar to the Vista/7 Start menu or Quicksilver for Mac. It is more powerful than the Windows Start Menu from the wide verity of plugins that integrate with various programs and services.

In the second screenshot I have my chat program open. Windows are set to a weak transparency to let the texture of the background show through.

Derek and I went to see  for the first time tonight. On my insistence we went to a local neighborhood theater where 3D movies are $9. Better than the $13.50 at the other places.

It was FUCKING AWESOME.

Go see it. Now. Yes in 3D. It was perfict. The computer grpahics, the 3D, all of it was used as the right tool for the right job, not as gimmicks.

Go.
